Community Charity Drive
Over the last five years the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo beauty pagaent has grown into a true Southern Cape community charity drive, in aid of Garden Route and Klein Karoo shelters for battered and abused women and children. Tremendous awareness for beneficiary shelters are created through the media, and all proceeds generated from ticket sales to the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo gala event are donated to shelters for battered and abused women and children, operating in Mossel Bay, George, Oudtshoorn and Knysna. In 2009, over R60 000 were donated to shelters for battered and abused women and children, with strong Southern Cape business and private sector support.
Perhaps most heartwarming of all is the beauty sessions that previously abused Southern Cape women are treated to as part of the shelter makeover competition, yet another division of the Miss Garden Route & Klein Karoo beauty pagaent. During these beauty session victims of women abuse regain their pride and truimph over circumstance.
