Background
We recognize that some of our patrons will experience gambling problems that result in them being unable to control their spending which can create enormous problems in their lives.
For some, these problems can create financial hardship. For others it can create great emotional stress, which will affect work, health, relationships or ability to study.
Garden Route Casino has a comprehensive program in place to provide assistance to those who need it. This includes a special hotline, where people with gambling problems can seek advice. Another option available to patrons is self exclusion.
What does self exclusion entail?
Another option available to patrons is self exclusion. Patrons can exclude themselves from our casino or nationally (all other South African casinos). It is such a simple process and no one taking up this option needs to explain why they do not wish to return to Garden Route Casino or any other casino nationally.
Patrons who exclude themselves from our casino or any casino nationally are prohibited from entering any of these casino premises. In fact, anyone attempting to breach the self exclusion order will risk prosecution and a possible fine. These measures have been put in place to help minimize the risk of patrons suffering further gambling problems.
How do I exclude myself?
Patrons wishing to exclude themselves from our casino or nationally should simply approach the Guest Relations Desk, located in the main foyer.
The whole matter will be treated privately and confidentially. A photo may be taken of you to assist in identification should you breach yourself exclusion order by trying to enter whilst your self-exclusion order is still in place.
When you request a self exclusion for our casino, all documentation will be kept confidential at our casino. Should you request your self-exclusion to be nationally, all relevant documentation regarding your self-exclusion will be forwarded to the National Gaming Board. They will place all your information on the National Exclusion Register. Your self-exclusion information will then be available to all other casinos in South Africa.
Applicants will be issued with a brochure reflecting the National Responsible Gambling Rules. The upliftment of a self exclusion will only be considered once:
- A cooling off period of one year has been completed.
- Reasonable evidence can be provided of suitable rehabilitation programs attended to address the problem that led to self exclusion.
- A written request for the upliftment of the self exclusion has to be made to our casino and the National Gambling Board.
The exclusion order also point out that casino staff have the power to remove you from the casino while the self exclusion order is in force. Patrons can be assured that details of self exclusion orders will remain confidential at all times.
“Garden Route Casino would urge patrons who believe they have a gambling problem to consider taking the option of a self-exclusion order. It is simple and confidential and a good way for people who cannot control their gambling to avoid further problems.”
